If you are like me then already you’ve had enough of sin in the world. You know those moments you think of acquiring a new prayer, “Take me Lord Jesus.” I mean the U.S had their moment when they legalized homosexuality. Homosexuality doesn’t shock me, really. But the whole thing of institutionalizing it? Man! It’s not one of things I thought would happen when I still have breath.
But even coming closer home. Recently I encountered some women who drink. I sank with grief and shock as they bragged of how they go drinking. “Some Guinness is cool”, they would say. As if to prove it after the event we were in they went partying. The questions that ran through my mind were, “Who is looking after their children? Are their husbands aware? How do they expect their children to turn out? Sober, unlike them?”
But these are realities that I have to live with. The world is changing to the worse. ‘New’ sins will pop up everyday. But when the foundations shake, what will the righteous do?
This is time we know that salvation is nearer than when we first believed. It’s not time to just mourn as we see morals decay in our society. Neither should we ignore, and just move on with life, with the security that our souls are already secure with the Lord. It’s time to speak out. It’s time to ambush the primary schools where the kids are and seek opportunities of sharing the word. It’s time to go the high schools and tell the teenagers sin is not cool. It is disobedience towards a holy God who cannot withstand sin!
As a christian you are faced with the temptation to hide and just ignore the surroundings. People will praise sin in your hearing and all you’ll do is keep quiet. But imagine this is not the time to keep quiet! It’s a time to speak out the will of God. Even if they don’t hear just say it. Tell them what the Bible says. Don’t argue though. Speak the truth with grace. Let them know it is not OK to have sex before marriage. It is not alright for women to walk scantly dressed. Drinking is not cool. Any type of sin is not to be celebrated.
Jude 1:23 puts it the best way. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives. (NLT)
I have a friend who always emphasizes, “Separate the sinner from the sin.” Deal ruthlessly with sin but graciously with the sinner. Surely, the struggle won’t be for long. But for the short period, we must stand up for Jesus till every foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, ye soldiers of the cross;
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss.
From victory unto victory His army shall He lead,
Till every foe is vanquished, and Christ is Lord indeed.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the solemn watchword hear;
If while ye sleep He suffers, away with shame and fear;
Where’er ye meet with evil, within you or without,
Charge for the God of battles, and put the foe to rout.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the trumpet call obey;
Forth to the mighty conflict, in this His glorious day.
Ye that are brave now serve Him against unnumbered foes;
Let courage rise with danger, and strength to strength oppose.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, stand in His strength alone;
The arm of flesh will fail you, ye dare not trust your own.
Put on the Gospel armor, each piece put on with prayer;
Where duty calls or danger, be never wanting there.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, each soldier to his post,
Close up the broken column, and shout through all the host:
Make good the loss so heavy, in those that still remain,
And prove to all around you that death itself is gain.
Stand up, stand up for Jesus, the strife will not be long;
This day the noise of battle, the next the victor’s song.
To those who vanquish evil a crown of life shall be;
They with the King of Glory shall reign eternally.
Therefore, when the foundations shake, the righteous shall do what Ephesians 6:14 says; Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. (NLT)
